Hello, Does anyone have an idea, generally speaking, of the university or college with the best football and basketball programs? I am transferring to the University of Texas, Austin and a co-worker went to Ohio State University. We were wondering which college over the years and currently has the "better or best" football/basketball sports program. In other words, year after year, who has had the higher ranked basketball and football teams. Like one might say Harvard/Yale/Princeton has the best academic programs, we want to know about sports. Thank you.

OSU for football! If you go to this site:
http://football.stassen.com/records/compute-request.html

There is a stat calculator. Put the years from 1905-2005 and OSU will be #3 and Texas will only be #6 (and these stats will count last season's victory of Texas vs. OSU but will not yet count this season's victory of OSU over Texas).

OSU has been a more dominate football program over the last 100 years.

Neither programs are "great" basketball programs (though last year OSU made it farther than Texas).

Let me break this the hard way Mizzou will never win a championship in football or basketball. They can't compete against the big boys in these two sports. I suggest rooting for them in a sport like Jai-ali. They may not have a Jai-ali team but they have a better chance of starting one of those teams up and winning a national championship in that. Football and basketball just isn't going to happen.

I hate to say it, but Texas has probably the best combo of football and men's basketball right now.

Tennessee is getting there now that the football team is getting better and Pearl is coaching basketball.

For football, I'd say Ohio State. I don't follow college basketball!

Illinois? Are we kidding here? The team that just got its first conference win in about 40 years last week because MSU handed them the game?

Right now, the answer is Florida. Over the last few seasons, it's Texas.
