When a new born baby is delivered, it cries out. This is a sign that a soul has entered the new body. Now, this soul remembers so many things mainly about the life It is going to face here on earth, both the good, the bad & the uglies. Good things amuse(smile) it while bad events make it frowns, terrible events make it cries within but you see all this on its face.

Mere innocence.
As a baby grows older, it is learning all kinds of mischiefs first from its parents and then from the society. If a mature man/woman laughs or smiles in his/her sleep or in relaxed mood, what do we call him/her? That is the irony of our Life. At times weren't we scolded for being innocent?

Awww sweet!! Newborn babies often smile in their sleep due to wind. Could be from a lack of winding them properly but i think its pretty normal in newborns. Been so long since mine were little but I dont think Im wrong? x

you see old tooth fallen people they also look as if they are smiling ha, ha. When teeth are not there in the mouth the skin sags a bit and since babies skin is smooth and unwithered it looks as if they are smiling.

I was told that it was 'gas', but I've had that and I never smiled about it. lol
My grandmother used to tell me it was because the angles were talking to them.
I liked that idea.

it is probably wind, which is normal for newborns. babies dont actually learn to smile straight away. i think they start around 3 months or so which is when my son started to smile.
but in newborns its more than likely to be wind, ad again is nothing to worry about. it looks kinda cute...

it is just a reflex action.babies skin is soft and they feel even the slightest touch of wind,,which causes them a tickling sensation and thats the reason y they smile.

Sometimes she makes faces and weeps as well.
Yes it is true. These are reactions from the still fresh memories from for past birth.
