That is because he was unable to explain certain things and therefore presumed that there must be supernatural powers. And even now, people are failing to see that god is just the creation of man's imagination.

There are many reasons for this...

God is a means of controlling the masses. It is also a marketing tool as well. I will explain.

Before the idea of heaven and hell, people were more or less supposed to think for themselves and act based on their own decisions. Along comes this great guy who says, hey, you people don't know how to act. Here's the way you should act. He was a great teacher, a wise man, and over all, just a good guy.

He had a bunch of followers who thought to themselves, hmm, let's write a book about him. We'll make it a really good story and then we'll go around telling everyone it's absolutely true! They will believe us because they have nothing to lose by doing so.

2000 years later, the same bs and crap is still going around, but not it has turned into a controll and business issue. Today, the church has more power than any other governing body. If you don't think that's true, take a look at Bush. Mr. Born again christian, my rear end. The only reason he plays the big spiritual person is to get the votes from the millions upon million of religious people out there.

If the president is that worried about what religious people think, just proves my point.

Secondly, the church pounds god into peoples hearts and minds as a way of controlling their behavior. Again, if you don't think this is true, look at all the rules and regulations churches impose on people.

You have millions of women complaining about abortion, yet they don't say anything when the church tells them that birth control is evil and wrong (Yeah, way to promote aids there, you morons). Churches have more controll over the general populations thinking and behavior than anyone ever could. They control how they think, how they act, how they lead their lives in general. And, the saddest part is, these people need it.

Have you ever considered what would happen if organized religion fell apart tomorrow? If it was somehow proved that god did not exist? Sure, you'd have a lot of people who'd claim it's all phoney, but you'd have those who without god in their lives anymore, they'd have no ability to think for themselves or make their own decisions, due to the lack of input from the church.

As for the business aspect, I firmly believe and always will that the church and "god" is a giant business. I have stated this before, and will always do so... Consider that when you attend church, some people as much as 5 times a week (those people really need to get a life) you are asked to donate your money. You are encouraged to "Tithe" in many religions, and many, many churches ask you to remember them in your will, yet again giving them even more of your money.

Have you noticed how HUGE most churches are anymore? They don't even LOOK like churches. They build giant warehouse type buildings just so they can fit more people in on Sundays mass and get a bigger cut of the income. If you don't believe that, you truely are blind.

There was a priest in my city who told the church he did not want to grow the congregation much larger than it already was, and pointed out that there were 86 other churches (In my city of 80,000 people), and guess what? He got moved to another church and they added an additional 14,000 SQFoot section to the church, which became the new, whatever you call it, where the pews are... They got an additional 400+ people to the church.

Yes, the church is all about money and power, and without god, they would have no way to back up this power at all... Therefor, they must maintain the illusion that there is a god watching down on all of us and keep telling us how evil we are so we will keep going to them for forgiveness.

One day, people might actually wake up from this delusion they're stuck in and realise the truth.

In the primitive (even in some present) societies, the elders were controlling the mass.
That institution (the body to control the mass) has taken different shapes down the centuries and now we have democratic governments to play that part.
Whatever may be the shape of that body, there were two inevitable that go along with.
(1) Controlling the mass is really a tough work- that (the body) commited many blunders during their execution.
(1) It was a great privilege to be a part or on the top of that body. They understood that using the public wealth for their personnel motives costs them nothing.
In both cases, there were instances of public anger. The elders in the primitive society had discovered a GOD to save them during their crisis, and the same GOD is still doing amazing miracles even now!

God is man-made. "He" was made to explain the unexplainable and to give hope to those that would otherwise have nothing to live for. Just think of all the times you wished god would give you something or help you. The concept of god states god doesn't fulfill any greedy wishes so wishing is futile yet people do it, because it gives a purpose to their poor lifestyle. I also wonder if god truly existed why are there no carvings in caveman days that depict god or even the concept of religion!?!? The concept of god doesn't predate past organised civilization...

Greeks used gods to explain what made the world go round, but today the weather is explained with the ecology of the planet and its geography.

This reminds me of the video game Deus Ex, where an AI explains the concept of god why he 'exists'.

Look at the game script that Morpheus says.

our ancestors were very intelligent they wanted us to work in a manner which should be beneficial to the sociaty.
for this they created god, who will reward us if we do good things and will punish us if we are wrong.
So dont worry even if you think god exists or not, the idea here is for you to understand that We are humans until we show humanity, that is what our ancestors wanted us to know, so follow humanity. may god bless you.
