Fighting began with the Battle of Lexington in 1775. It officially ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1783. Some historians think the revolution actually began in 1763 when the British defeated France in the French and Indian War, and some would say the American Revolution is ongoing today.

Fighting began at the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 18, 1775. The formal end of the war did not occur until the Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783, and the United States Congress ratified the treaty on January 14, 1784.
