The Taxi charges are laid down by the local Authority so as you will be pre booking you could use a minicab.
Minicabs can often charge less than Taxis because their cars are MOT failiures with bit of tax from the Local scrap yard.
They have no Insurance.
Many of the drivers are on less than minimum wage as they are illegal immigrants, have no valid driving license and do not speak english. But they are cheap.

I live in Texas so I cant help you with that but heres a little bit of trivia for you. Did you know that doctors once did a study of London taxi drivers? To be a taxi driver in London you have to memorize all the streets in the city. The doctors measured the hippocampus of their brains before and after they memorized all those streets and found out that the hippocampus actually grew larger after they did all that memorization.

Does such a taxi driver exist? How about paying a friend a flat amount to take you? Or get the train.

A licensed taxi driver will have to charge you whatever is on the meter. A private hire car AKA minicab can charge whatever they like.

If you book a hackney cab to get you to an onward connection, tell them that and what time you have to be there. It's then their responibility to ensure you get to it in time or to your ultimate destination if not.

About 20 quid each way - much better to pre-book it as they have been known not to be there otherwise
