Though I don't know lots of stuff about computers, I do know what my son told me about the fan in my computer. He says that hair & dust can cling to it, wrapping around the shaft of the fan, thus making it work harder. You might have to unplug everything, take the back off and shoot some of that compressed air at the dirt & hair, blowing it away. It also could be that you've just got too much stuff on your hard drive. My son told me to make sure I run a defrag every week, which compresses all the space on my hard drive, and makes things run more efficiently. My computer often grinds away too. My son has set up some pre-programmed downloads and such, which can be very noisy when they're doing their thing. I'm sure you'll be able to find some computer geek at school or at your local technical school that could give you some ideas and actually know what they're talking about. I'm just a grandma, with a computer nerd in her back pocket! Best to you. <*)))><

Well first I would suggest, checking how many startup process you have and modify them accordingly. Try to run less programs at one time, since it sounds like your system cant handle it. Go and buy a can of compressed air, and take off some of the bottom panals and blow them out with short burst of air. Make sure there is a good air flow reaching your cpu, maybe invest in a 5.00 fan to have just blowing on your cpu. Also is there any specific program or piece of hardware that you installed right before the weird sound started. if so maybe that has something to do with it.

i can suggesst a few steps to figure out what's exactly happening. take a music cd and put it in the tray and try playing it frmo windows media player. even if it opens automatically in some other player. close it and go to the particular file and right click and you will find openwith... open with the media player and see what happens. if it plays well uninstall the other media players and re-install them.
another thing is go to control panel sounds and audio devices and try clicking on the sounds and test it. if it plays good there must be some thing wrong with the settings.
last option uninstall the audio drivers and try re-installing it ... ensure you have the s/w driver to re-install it.

One of the fans is working bad. You have to change it as soon as possible, otherwise, you may loss your processor, the video device, or the power source, or, at least, damage seriously your computer.
