Because here, we live in a disposable society and marriage is no exception. It became so much easier for anyone just to file for divorce rather than put in the hard work it takes to make a marriage last.

More often then not people get married under the wrong situation. both are young and looking for 'true love' and its usually lust or jealousy. Sometimes selfishness and insecurity play a large role in it as well. Also what we seem to want to aspire to be i.e. celebrities and atheletes and such, all seem to take divorce rather lightly. the frequency of the celbrity divorces and the amount alloted to it on our news shows us where our values stand. You see these poor celebrities pick up their lives and move on and still remain successful. because divorce is taken with a nonchalance attitude it gives us the same impression as well. Thats why i think there has been an influx of divorcees in recent years. when u see it portrayed as an option to many many famous people u, it starts to look like a good option for u to.

people rush into things expecting something different. this is why so many marriages don't work out. that and lifestyle has changed since the 50's and people are more mobile and connected. its easier to realize your not really in love with someone or find someone else. also women aren't sitting at home anymore. its easier to get fed up. people these days are less worried about the stigma of a divorce than they were back in the day also.
personally i would not marry someone unless i intended to spend the rest of my life with them. which explains wht i'm almost 30 and not married yet. i haven't found that person. it would take a major change from my husband, like cheating or abuse to make me leave. otherwise, if he was faithful and loved me right, then i would stick with him.

In other countries, marriage is not done necessarily out of love, it is done out of necessity and improving a standard of living, esp. with the amount of children in international families being typically higher and the insistence of a dowry in many cultures. In America, marriages are done out of lust, and often haste, therefore the divorce rate increases, esp. when the couple can survive on their own divided. This begins to explain the 50% divorce rate.

If you are not happy in your marriage, seek counselling.
Why do so many marriages end in divorce? Because woman are no longer doomed to take everything men feel like dishing out.

Social pressures make you believe you HAVE to get married in the first place. This is not true, if you love and respect someone and are not planning to have children you don't need to be married.
In the past people got married so they can have many children and be able to support them through inheritances from both families etc...
We still hold on to the idea that man and woman must get married. Our laws and social structure are advantageously set up for married people.

The influence of feminism. Chinese women rarely divorce, and surprise , the Fem movement has not had nearly as big of an impact on them. They support their husbands rather than try to compete with them, they are modest, and practice humility
