You understant the concept of Peace because there is Violence.
Just like you understant day because the existence of night.
Evil has always been on Earth, but there are periods in which Peace is more or less prevalent and Periods in which Violence is more or less prevalent.
Example India had virtually gone into a state of Peace for many centuries after we achieved our Golden Age and after the Birth of Buddha, only to go into Violence because Muslim Invaders Conqured and captured India for 800 years.

Peace is possible only within a person, and is lost only within a person !
The whole world is otherwise quite peaceful.
A truly peaceful person finds everything peaceful, and even where there are some clashes, he views it only like two animals fighting for survival, like it happens in a forest !

The concept of peace ranks among the most controversial in our time. Peace undoubtedly carries a positive connotation; almost nobody admits to opposing peace; world peace is widely seen as one of the most noble goals of humanity. Various groups, however, differ sharply about what peace entails, how best to achieve it, and even if peace is truly possible

For GOD "SO" Loved the world that He [The Father] gave Jesus [Jesus gave Himself] that whosoever [you] should BE-LIVE in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, Jn 3:16, you live in a world that has a total death rate, where is the peace you spoke of in the knowledge you are walking around in your own grave right now, but IF you love me keep my commandments [not suggestions] so IF you love Him enough to keep His commandments YOU will have the peace in knowing you will be in Heaven with Jesus, IF not than ANY hope of finding peace is nothing but a bad joke. It is certainly not in this modern world where the slightest disturbance anywhere is flashed across for the whole world to react.
It could well be quietly living in a remote self-sufficient village cut off from the rest of the world.

Philippians 4:6,7 - "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus."
The peace spoken of in the quotation above, we can have now, in our minds and hearts, if we pray to God, in the name of his son, Jesus.
But that is not all. God has also promised earthwide peace in the future for those who are "meek" (meek can also be translated: "teachable"):
Psalms 37:9,11 - "...But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth...But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

Peace is within oneself yet difficult to discover. The more you extend yourself to help & serve others with love, compassion & patience, you get closer to peace, spiritually as well as mentally.
