Something wrong with your operating system,check your operating system,In windows 2000 pro sometimes it happens,i had a this type of problem

Press "control-alt-delete" to bring up your task manager and close as many tasks as you can. Some of those will interrupt programs or downloads.
Also, when you set up your download check to see if the menu includes some re-starts. Some of them might require installation in stages, and that would normally require a re-start.
Task managers vary from one operating system to another, but you bring up most of them through the Microsoft "three finger salute."

go under your control panel
system
advanced tab
at the bottom of the window there is a startup and recovery check settings
and make sure automatically restart is unchecked
your computer gets overwhelmed with data occasionally, and downloading programs will do it....sometimes you need to pace inbetween downloads
