Hi, it can be the ignition or a fuse the cheapest would be to try out the fuses first. If that does not work then I would guest it could be the ignition. But remember cars are like people you have to be aware of every symptom before you can diagnose. Some mechanics will try to rip you off they will tell you It could be a few things just to take your money. Both fuse and ignition are easy to install.......

Try this before being towed. If the emergency brake was not set before the shift lever was put into park, there is a possibility that the vehicle had a slight roll and locked the transmission key lock shift pawl. To release the weight on the shift pawl, set the emergency brake, chock the tire wheel(s) and jack up the front of the vehicle so that the tire(s) are just touching the ground (could be the right front wheel tire is jambed against the curb). Now try to see if the ignition lock will turn.

1st of all either the tumblers in your ignition are worn/sticking or your key is worn/not cut correctly.
parts stores should sell a graphite lubricant made just for keys and locks. I'd try that first since you wont be out of pocket for only a few dollars.
also try using a different key. you do have a spare key I hope.
If neither helps you, you wont have a choice but to tow it to a shop. sorry.

first thing to do is wiggle the steering wheel while you try to turn the key. Depending on the type of car, it's about 3.5 hrs labor to take the column apart.

don't just gently "wiggle" the steering wheel...try hard to turn the wheel in each direction while trying to gently turn the key...if that does not work call a couple of reliable repair shops...tell them your problem to assure that they will work on it and have vehicle towed in for repair.

just call or go buy your neighborhood locksmith,if he cant help you he will know of another who does mobile service calls.it should run you about 85bucks installed.
the only way it would be more is if you have a pats key system, then that would require a very good auto key man or a dealer to reprogram your key
