No. it will prompt you to rewrite over the existing...or at least the Norton I bought did. I bought it online and it prompted me to do what was necessary to install it. I'm sure the trial issue would too.

You have not been specific about your existing protection, but the answer to your question is - YUP, you need to remove your existing protection cause most probably it will give you a conflict while trying to install Norton Trial. You could give it a try by trying to install the trial version over the existing protection, if it gives an error read carefully what the prompt says and follow instructions.

Yes, if its norton anti virus, you need to.

although norton will prompt you if you have existing protection and will warn you that it will not work properly. You can still go on with the installation. But i think you should uninstall your existing program first, this could cause a lot of problem, like conflict on program, protection will be less or ineffecient etc.

Yeah you will have to bcuz the two will obstruct each other. But why install Norton trial at all?? If you have AVG or Avast or BitDefender or AntiVir or ClamWin or Kaspersky or ZoneAlarm or TrendMicro or McAfee or....................... then your system is too secure to be infected with virus. Norton is the market leader of course. But this is why it is unsafe. Most of the virus are developed to corrupt it. I reckon you use a freeware antivirus which hardly get any attention and also detect virus upto 90%(higher than Norton or McAfee)!
Here are their links:

Norton is much much trouble.
The real question will become, "how do I uninstall it?"
Because it is a very invasive program.
There is so much better, much cheaper and even free out there.

If you need an anti-virus, Avast! home edition is a very good one, and free.

Yes! However, the real question is why install any other security programs, especially if your not experiencing any problems? Keep the ISP's security stuff and let them worry about it! Its free to boot!
