It is the author Robert Heinlein. The book is "Time Enough for Love". There are a couple chapters in that book called "excerpts from the Notebooks of Lazarus Long". Lazarus, aka Woodrow, being a recurring character in Heinlein's books who is also referred to as the "Senior" since he lives to be hundreds or is it like a thousand years old. There was also a book published that is only the excerpts, but get "Time Enough.. " if you can, it's a good read.
