Bring this matter to the people in the next table. More often than not, out of common courtesy, they usually heed your complain and put out the cigarette. If they don't, bring this to the attentionof the waitress and then the manager. But I don't think you'll find any more restaurants with smoking section, anywhere except in Las Vegas. Some outdoor restaurants and bars still allow this. But in majority of restaurants, and public areas , smoking is forbidden.

I would politely ask them to put it out since it is a non smoking area. If they refuse get a manger you're paying to eat somewhere you should have the benefit of a smoke free environment. I'm a smoker and still don't smoke in restaraunts. Just because I choose to smoke doesn't give me the right to expect that everyone will be comfortable around it.

Iwould politely ask them to either stop or move to the smoking section. If they still wouldn't I would talk to the management. i am a smoker and don't want to offend others but on the other hand I want to be treated wtih respect too. Ask nicely and you would be surprised how many people will doo what you ask

I would pitch a fit especially if I had my baby with me.
(I used to smoke and would never subject it to anyone even when we still could smoke in and indoor public place other than the bar but now that's illegal too)

I would after finding out where the smoking area is, go over and (in a friendly manner) inform them that they are in a non-smoking area and point out to them where the smoking area is. I would then thank them for their consideration.

You should definitely bring this matter to the attention of the waiter/waitress. If they don't take any action, then demand to speak to the manager.
Under no circumstances should you approach the "offending party" directly. Your complaint should be to the restaurant, not to any of the other diners .......

You ask the waiter politely if that is really a no smoking section and if it is, you ask him to politely tell them not to smoke. It's not that hard. If they dont', then you leave or asked to be moved.

Politely remind them that this is a non smoking area and let management sort it out if there is no compliance.

I would kindly ask them to put it out. Actually, to avoid making a scene, I'd just go to a waiter or the manager and explain and have them deal with it.
