Insulation is used to restrict the current flow, so that all of it passes through the filament for the purpose of heating it to produce light. This includes the glass bulb, which keeps the current flow away from whatever the bulb might touch, and also keeps the inert gases in and the oxygen out. It also is a thermal insulator, which reduces the amount of heat that leaves the bulb by conduction.

there is no "insulator" in a bulb. it works buy electricity flowing through the fillimant which gets hot due to heat. then is also in a vacuum to reduce heat on the glass and to lengthen the time it will last until it "burns" out
