Depend on the name/type of store. For example, many chinese-food stores in the Bay Area pay lower wages, from $8 to $10 an hour, whereas the likes of Safeway would pay between $10 and $15 an hour.

It depends... on a ton of things... but the simple answer is not that much. If you're a cashier like at a grocery store, starting wages average 6-8 dollars an hour... not minimum wage, but never anything more than 8 or 9. It also depends on your experience... if you've had cash handling, food service, or any other experience, you might start at a higher rate than a complete new person. Then there's things like unions, your availability, management differences... but the gist of it is, if you're just starting out in job experience, there's worse jobs than cashiering and it doesn't require much real job history... you just gotta know how to basic math and able to deal with people, sometimes rude people.

I know the bigger store brands pay more per hour aroudn 10 dollars an hour and smaller grocery stores make aroudn 8 dollars an hour.
At the bigger stores i've heard its a lot easier to get promoted if your doing a good job into managment etc.
Smaller storse you get more hours and and are more flexible.
so it all depends on you..i suppose
if you want to work longer and be flexible its better at a small store.
if you want to work hard theres always oppurtunities to move up the ladder at bigger stores..
