i don't understand. what's the point?

They just want attention. Some people use pictures of breasts for avatars, and actually, it attracts more people to the question and they end up getting more answers. Those people might be clever to think of doing such a thing, but not so much when a lot of the answers they get aren't serious. People with full-body avatars I think are starved for acknowledgement. I don't regard them as intelligent before I read the question or answer, so I have a negative pre-judgement of them. If people want to be taken seriously, I think they should all just stay away from these avatars.

most people who use either revealing avatars or clothing is to attract attention to themselves. They are actually a group of people with low self esteem. If a woman is smart and sexy and totally confident, she'll wear a business suit and STILL be sexy, if a woman is smart and sexy, yet feels she's not smart, or not good enough, she'll wear a revealing blouse to show her cleavage. This attracts attention to what she wants you to look at, not what she considers to be her flaws. I know a lot of people are going to disagree and even get mad at my explanation, but that just furthers my point. Someone who is truly confident in themselves, does not care what other people say or think.

The point is they want compliments and attention, probably because that's lacking in their real lives.
