Camel cigarettes use the camel, as branded, for their logo. Their advert tag is: I'd walk a mile for a Camel.
Marlboro is a different brand altogether. Their advertising "look" is American western, cowboys. The Marlboro theme song is taken from the main title track of an old, western classic movie: The Magnificent Seven.

Umm, CAMEL used the Camel, not Marlboro. Marlboro used a Cowboy named Bob.

Joe camel, camel cigarettes...Cowboy, Marlboro cigarettes. I have no idea why they used a camel...I guess because that is a character that is not commonly used like the mouse or cat.
