It SHOULD NOT be a pitcher, I want to pay somebody that kind of money who produces every day. It shouldn't be a DH, the player should have great defensive abilities as well as offensive. Overall I say the player who should be paid the most is the player who can get the most. Kudo's to whoever can work teh system, it's laughable. If I had to pick one guy that I would offer as much money to play on my team it would have to be David Wright or Beltran. They are both monster's on offense and good defensive players. The biggest reason is that they are both young. PUjols would definately be up there too, but everybody says Pujols.

I would also like to point out that you don't pay somebody for what tehy have done in the past, you pay them for what they are capable of.

The highest paid player should be the guy that would make any team he plays for better. If that is the case, I would have to say Albert Pujols runs away with this honor.

He has hit over .314 every season...has had at least 34 HR's every year he has played, and over 117 RBI's each season. No player in history has ever done that.

He has averaged .332 (avg) 43 (hr's) 132 (rbi's) each season...and with the exception of one year, he has walked more times than he has struck out! That stat alone is insane.

I believe he is far and away the best player in the league, at such a young age. He would make any team an immediate playoff contender. Granted Santana can be unstopable, but he has not had as much success away from Minnesota, while Pujols rakes anywhere he plays.

I would have to agree with Poo-holes. He is going to average over .320 for the next 8 years with over 40 HR's and 115 RBI's. While ARod had an off season, I don't know if he could keep his average up like Pujols can.

The only issue with giving Ichiro top money is his age, but he may be the 2nd best leadoff man ever (Ricky Henderson) with a Howitzer for an arm in the OF and Mercury's winged feet, but not enough power.

However, if you were basing everything on 1 year contracts, I would probably have to go with the 1st posting of Johan Santana as you would be getting a guaranteed 17+ wins, a sub 3 ERA, 200+ K's and unquestionably the best pitcher in the 2nd half of the season, when it matters the most.

Albert Pujols. Because he's got the great offensive numbers that everyone knows about but he's also great in the field and as clutch of a hitter as there is. He also has great character which is rare in sports from the superstars which makes him a great ambassador for the game.

Definitely Pujols. He has everything going for him and is consistent. Home runs, Batting Average, High OB%, and very low strike out ration. He is also a decent fielder.

Ichiro Suzuki-he's a brilliant all round player with perfect mechanics. He can hit, he can field, he can steal bases.
