My friend and I have been counting cards at blackjack in vegas for a couple years now but am worried what might happen to us if we get caught?

It's an urban legend propogated by Rain Man in which Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise take Vegas for huge $$$ by counting cards. In reality, casinos either use 2 decks or do mid-deck shuffles.

If they suspect you are counting cards, they will likely detain you, call the police, and have them search you for an illegal gambling device. If nothing is found, they will likely issue you a warning, remove you from the premises and/or blacklist you from the casino altogether and send your information to other casinos so that you will be prohibited from playing there, too. If an illegal gambling device is found, you will for sure be blacklisted and most likely arrested and charged with a gaming crime. Counting cards in your head is not illegal, but it is against casino policy.

2. You may have been caught already but have not won very much so they're leaving you alone, for now
3. If the casino's take action, you'll be escorted out of the casino and pretty much banned from Vegas except the slots at the airport.

Counting Cards is not illegal. The worst that can happen is you could get kicked out of the casino.
