The information you need can be found at http://www.virtualstampclub.com/inherit.html - it's too long for me to post all of it here.
Most stamp collections are worth less than their owners think they are, as thousands of common stamps that someone bought 50 years ago, alas, are still common and sell for very little. If, however, someone put a lot of money into rare stamps 50 years ago, they could be worth a fortune now.

Value depends upon if they have ever been mailed or not. Next I would go to/call your local library to see if they happen to have a book about stamps & their values. If they don't, the next course of action would be to ask if they would know where you could abtain the information that your looking for. You might even ask at your local post office they may be able to give you a clue.

Stanley Gibbons are based in London and are probably the biggest stamp dealers in the world. Many public libraries in the UK carry copies of their catalogues - these may be available in libraries outside the UK. Check out their web-site at http://www.stanleygibbons.com/home/ for details of past and current catalogues available, valuation and auction services plus a lot more.

Check out stamp collectors in your area, but don't let them fool you into thinking that they're giving you the best deal. Check a lot of them out and do some research online before you sell one or all of them.
