I love role playing video games and a friend recommended Final Fantasy. Any suggestions as to which one to start with? Do you know of any other good story line role playing games? Thanks!

i wrote summaries for the final fantasies in another question -> http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Atnw4IbUIWXrxHD3lTAJCnXsy6IX?qid=20061002072023AAPLYyP

i recommend final fantasy four advance on the gameboy. it's got a great storyline, great characters, and will show you the best Final Fantasy has to offer.

there are also FF games to stay away from.

2 (jp) is a hit or miss. many people don't like the leveling system
5 is also a hit or miss.
7 isn't worth the plastic case it comes in, because it is almost a carbon copy of FFVI (6)
10 isn't a real final fantasy. square stopped making good games after 6, except for tactics and tactics advanced
---------
kaz below wrote that FFVI (III for snes) is coming out for DS. this is incorrect, as it is coming out for GBA. though GBA games are playable on DS

In my opinion you should start with Final Fantasy Anthologies for the Play Station, it is Final Fantasy and 6 remake, and will let you get used to the different classes and styles of characters that are present in all Final Fantasy games (even though in most of the more recent ones you cannot choose your characters class) which are: mage (the magic user's), the thief types (self explanatory), and the warrior types (again self explanatory). Now there are certain combinations of these base types, but the game will explain those.

Ultimately the choice is yours, so choose wisely because some of the games can get quite irritating.

Which ever game you choose to start out with I hope you enjoy the experience.

Final Fantasy 8 should be on everyone's "To Play" list.
The best Intro and Soundtrack in the series.
It has a great storyline (well, all F.F games do) but this one still stands out.

Pick up and play this 4 disc epic for the PS-1.
I'm sure you won't regret it.

Every Final Fantasy has its own storyline and characters so it does not matter which one you will start playing first.

If you don't mind old graphic, I would suggest FF V and FF VI.

You may want to try other SquareEnix games like, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Dragon Quest VIII.

US Version of FF III (originally for the SNES) But is coming out for the Nintendo DS soon. NOW, if your looking for a good RPG, check out Earthbound. It's a modern day RPG (bats instead of swords, Robots and modern animals instead of Dragons). It owns all other RPG's. It's very trippy too! Go to starmen.net and wikipedia.com (search Earthbound for the SNES) for more info.

doesn't really matter i guess, all the final fantasys are independent from each other. so doesn't make a difference of which one u play first. What i will say is....u need to play ALL!!

they are all such a cool gameeesssss
