Mahindra and Mahindra was actually named as M&M, which meant Mohammed & Mahindra. The company was a joint effort of Mahindras and Ghulam Mohammed prior to independence.

When india got partitioned Ghulam Mohammed the partner withdrew from the company and moved to pakistan. However the name remained M&M. After lot of deliberation, the company did not want to leave the already recognized and popular name "M&M", so the company was named Mahindra and Mahindra instead of Mohammed and Mahindra.
