I assume you mean how a space ship moves through the vacuum of space. The space ships we know use action-reaction. By burning a fuel that expands rapidly (explodes), they can send that burning fuel away from the ship at high speed. The rapid movement of the mass of the fuel (action) causes the ship to move in the opposite direction (reaction).

When the first rockets were sent into space, some scientist thought they wouldn't work when they ran out of atmosphere to push against, but that's not how rockets work. It's like jumping out from a floating boat, as you go one way, the boat goes the other.

Of course, in order for the fuel to burn in space, the rocket has to carry the oxygen that the fuel needs to burn as well. So there is a difference between atmospheric rockets and space rockets.

Other, more exotic propulsion methods have been proposed, ion streams, nuclear reactions, capturing the solar wind, but they all boil down to either pushing something away or getting in front of something that is already pushing. Someday we may invent a new way of moving around, like Star Trek's "warp drive", but we have to make a few crucial scientific discoveries first.

Conservation of momentum, assuming you are refering to how it can move in a vacuum. A rocket or space ship does not "push" against anything, that's just bad physics. The ejection of hot gases from the back end of a rocket results a momentum change that must be compensated by the rocket's motion forward.

Ok, now we know from above that how it reaches from earth to space. Once the critical velocity is acheived and the distance from earth is so ,that, neither the space ship is drifted to outer space nor is pulled by earth gravity (remember newton's apple),the space ship is in correct phase to start its work.

1]Pull out solar panels for gathering energy from sun and charge internal batteries to function.

2]Start uplink & downlink frequency to maintain base station contact.

3]Space ship does carry people too(really),Functions assigned to each one has to be completed in fixed time interval. some functions
a)Repair of Hubble panel.
b)Repair of private sattelite.
c)Releaving of crew already present in space station like MIR (past) and ISS (Future).

Above all space ship works with hi-end computers and brave men those make them and lead them in space.

You better call capt. kirk from the starship enterprise, maybe he knows?
