For an incentive we asked him to chose 10 different schools, listing the first as the one he would absolutly want to go to. His father and I will then put those schools in a range. Depending on his GPA will determine his choice range. Can anyone suggest some programs. A living with a family program or boarding school

your son is lucky to have good parents like you. as to which is better - family program or boarding school - ask the guidance counselors of the schools you have chosen for your son. they are in the best position to offer you sensible advise. cheers!

Have you thought about sending your son overseas as a foreign exchange student instead of attending all of his high school years overseas? The reason why you may want to consider him to be a foreign exchange student is because he can choose to either go abroad for a short term (4-6 months) or for long term (1 year). He will not only get a chance to live in and attend school in another country, he will also have the chance to return to his US school and enjoy being a high school-er, the American way.

I hope this information helps. Good luck!

as a teacher I REALLY would not do that to my child, and am also a mother of two............whilst it is good in some aspects ANY place in Europe you know he will be able to drink, etc etc, Holland has free access to pretty much every drug you can imagine along with actual cafes for smoking dope...........

This is the ONE time he would need your guidance period and from what I have seen of both exchange students and some of the living conditions they have to endure............I would NOT recommend it period............took a group of students my self being part of the team and out of the 10 homes assigned to us EIGHT of us moved into a hotel for safety.....for the fact they wanted a young lady to stay in a house with NO other female with her no mother no sisters JUST men, two moved as they did not get ANY food for two days and the place I was put into well my dog has better living conditions.

As an alternative to this how about a family cultural tour each summer as his reward.

the american school of madrid-its pretty expensive but excellent choice. most people i know who went away for high school ended up returning. it might be a bit unsettling to try to adjust and make friends in your last school year. If its his choice-let him go if it is yours wait until college. You do realize the drinking age in europe is 16

why are you doing this. I would not send my child away while still in his formative years. He needs family close by. He'll be gone soon enough to college.
