Because everything about today's electronic gadgetry is designed to annoy. Stereos that blast out sh ite music, cell phones that ring annoyingly, mp3 players that you can hear through people's earphones (They have to be deafening themselves), car alarms and house alarms that no one bothers about, cars and motorbikes with noisy exhausts..........
RANT RANT RANT..........

1) In response to "me"... who said: [so is animal testing and child abuse but what can ya do about it]
Animal Testing and Child Abuse is not annoying. It is just plain wrong. Saying it is annoying just trivialises it, and that is part of the issue.
2) On to the main question.
It is all part of people wanting to be individual in this collective culture of sameness. I know that if I have a weird ringtone on my mobile phone, and it rings, everyone around me will be aware that I have a mobile phone and secretly they will wonder why they don't have a similar tone on their phone.
We live in a society where noise pollution is second nature. I don't think there is an easy solution. As for whether mobile phones are good or not... Society is a lot faster now than it was 20 years ago. I am not saying that it is better now, just that it is a case of keep up or stay behind.

I don't think it's annoying.
the annoyin thing is that most of the people take the mobile everywhere they go, even for a sunday walk, to the cinema, I even heard some ringing in the churches! I mean, for all's sake - get a break sometimes - do not treat the mobile as a leash, which will drag you to the rest of the world. at least turn it off from time to time...

If we all had the same ring tone then every time a phone rang we would all be rooting through our bags and pockets to find the phone!!

So I know it's my phone ringing and don't have to check every time I hear a ring I do tend to use my bluetooth whilst out and about but people don't like that either.

Why do people have to have cell phones at all? They are the worst thing ever invented - you can stuff them up any users rectum as far as possible, preferably whilst the crappy tunes are playing.

Because a lot of people - especially kids - doesnt have a mobile
for what is intended for: making and receiveing phone calls !
Its a toy for them - they have recently given up other toys like
dolls and toycars, etc.

Because they are stupid and inconsiderate spreading around so much audio pollution. I like my mobile telephone to sound like a telephone when it rings.
