It looks like he will stay out of the National Team for awhile... and most likely Spalletti (Roma's coach) will let him soon rest too.
Following some of his interviewes, it seems that he is having some pain on his ankle wile playing. That is the consequence of his "fast recovery" for participating to the World Cup after his surgery (in February).

Juventina: Totti had a surgery on his ankle (fractured fibula and strained ankle ligaments) after he had a rough tackle by Empoli's defender Vanigli (last February in Rome... Roma-Empoli 1-0)

He'll make a comeback, when he's ready. Thats for sure. Italy really needs him to qualify, afetr the World Cup, their form has been bad, and if they go on like that they will probably not qualify for EURO 2008. I don't think he will want to c his own country being unable to qualify...

He said he won't come back til 2007, he needs time to recover his ankle fully so he's in top shape for next year!
