If you want to create just an IM, it's easy if you already have an email address. But if you don't have, I guess you better get an email account. First create your own email address, then create a password. When you got all of those, you can start using Yahoo messenger or any messenger that link to the account. Then you can easily sign in. That's the basic first. I guess that'll help you!

In Computing, IM can mean :
Identity management
Information management
Input method
Instant Messenger/Instant Messaging
or,
Inside Macintosh !
...Unless you specify what you want, it will be hard to get a proper Answer.
Guessing that you want an Instant Messenger, for Instant Messaging, here is what you should do : First, go to the following link -
http://au.messenger.yahoo.com/download.php;_ylt=AnwYt3baXvnasWPU.qorUUoAAAAA
You'll get step-by-step guidance, to install your very own Yahoo! Messenger.
But if you are sharing your mom's PC, you can simply enter your Yahoo! ID and password into its Yahoo! Messenger - and you will be logged on.
Hope this helps.
