make sure the power adapter is plugged into power and plugged into the laptop. press and hold the power button on (don't let go) for 30 seconds. this resets the power circuit inside the laptop. If that doesn't work, remove the battery and power supply, press and hold the power button for another 30 seconds. Plug in the power and replace the battery. All fixed if it works right. Call Dell otherwise.

This is not good. I would recommend opening it if it was a desktop and making sure all the wires and everything is tight in place and not lose because lose wires and such can cause a computer to shut its self off after a while or a few seconds.
But being a laptop I do not even like opening them and I do it all the time. Unless you know what your doing I would get a friend or family member to look at it for you but the best idea in this case is to take it to a Repair Ship.
The problem with laptops is that everything is more integrated and tiny. Finding a problem and fixing it is much harder then a PC. Calling the tech support number might be a great Idea from the other answer you got. Good luck.

Seems you broke some component inside it.
See if there are any accidental marks on it now. If you have a Accidental Insurance... no need to worry...just Call Dell and explain them the problem. If not, still call Dell just don't mention that you dropped it and tell then it started doing this on its own(make sure there are no accidental marks on it). They will probably get it picked and fix it. Only Dell Support can help you now...call them!

It's possible the fall could have shook the heatsink (a cooling device) loose. If your computer doesn't see a heatsink on the processor it will shut off to keep from overheating. If the laptop is still under warranty call Dell and have them fix it, just don't tell them it was dropped.

Did you buy the accidental damage insurance? My brother just bought himself a Dell desktop and it kept turning off without warning. Call up Dell, see what they can do.

Either you contact Dell or take it to a shop in your area that specializes in laptops and have it checked/fixed, if it does not cost you more than a new one. But don't mess with it yourself!

Did the battery come out/loose? Take it out, reinsert it & see what happens...if that doesn't work, try having it run off its wall adapter (if it works, that means dead/damaged battery)
