When there is a road like Woodlawn Road and Old Woodlawn Rd, or Belair Rd and Old Beliar Rd, why is the one road called Old _____ Road ?

Did the one road originally go that way, then they made the road go a diferent way, so this road is the old road ??

You got it right. Progress causes new roads to be built around older neighborhoods so there can be more lanes on the "main" roads. The old ones get the "Old" name.

usually that was the main road at one time then the state comes in an builds a new road or high way so that becomes the new road and some people still live on these old Rd's so that's what they said old road
