Lots of sex and illegal gambling. rough and raunchy town and you can keep a mistress there if you wanna too. Good seafood but they are gonna rip you with singapore prices anyway.

Best bet would be to take the 40 mnutes ferry, the sea breeze would be the best part of the trip.

Batam is a safe place, 30 minute boat ride away from Singapore. There's not much to do there, just a lot of industrial factories. Batam is well known as Singapore's source of water.
You might be better off going to Bintan, Indonesia. There are resorts there.

Infamous for dating. It's about 30 minute flight, 1 hr. by boat. If you are into sex tours...then you can get into trouble in Batam. There are also the luxury spots and golf courses for the wealthy of Singapore to play. Cheap hotels and luxury ones can be found.

If you want an alternative that is nice, relaxed, and a little more remote try TIOMAN island in Malaysia. There are daily flights from Singapore and K.L. (only about 1 hr.) and some of the best diving/snorkeling around!
