Chemicals like CH4 are not carbohydrates, there are just organics. Carbohydrates have the formula (CH2)*x, such as C6H12)6, glucose. Because there is one carbon for every "hydrate" (H20) they got the name. However the structure is not carbons and water molecules.

carbon hydrate is driven from Carbon and hydrate, it's correct, but hydrate refers Hydrogen , not water as you think.
carbohydrates are compositions from carbon and hydrogen atoms , that's why we call them carbohydrates.For example methane is CH4
that is one carbon and 4 hydrogen atoms.
