Before music became so commercialized and time oriented, we used to love going to the clubs and listening to and dancing to what are now called jam bands. If the band played something that got the crowd on its feet dancing, they would jam out and go with the flow of the dancers. It sure beat changing the mood every 3 minutes. It also gives you more of an insight into the real talent of the band. Sometimes a song deserves more than just a set amount of time in order to convey the artists original idea or sound.

Any song less than 5 minutes is short in my opinion. In this day and age of short pop songs that follow the same formula (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus), the artistry is quickly lost. There is sooo much good music out there that simply does not get played because there is no attention span.

If 5 minutes is "long" then I'm getting old.

If the song is bad, then yes, it is a long song, but if it's a good song, you don't even notice the length.
