Doesn't really mean anything. Honda has been using the CB prefix for all their street bikes, since they started building 2 cylinder bikes. The R is just added to designate a race style sport bike. RR is for a race replica. Just to advertise that their models were competitive on race tracks.
CR - Competition Racer
XR - Cross country Racer (X as in MX motocross)
XL - Cross country w / Lights
CRF - Competition Racer Four stroke
VT - Vertical Twin
GL - GoLd wing
Use your imagination as a model designer. What would you designate a quad with tank treads? - QTT?
Yamaha -YZ - Yami's Zing past the competition.
Suzuki - RM - Rev's More or Race Model
Kawasaki VN - VulcaN

CB is Honda designation for a street bike. A 'C' designation is for Cub, 49 to 99cc semi-scooter (step thruogh frame, 17" wheels)
Dont know but here's a guess.
I guess CB is for Cub, Bigger? (lol) the 'R' is probably road
RR is definately race replica ( as in CBR900RR)
The race only bikes are RC for road racers and CR for motocross

i've got continuously understood the "CB" to stand for Commuter motorbike, or city motorbike (i.e.: designed for on a daily basis commuting or city driving). i've got heard that the "R" stands for Race, Racer or Racing (i.e.: greater sportier version of their CB motorcycles). they quite have a "CBF", yet i don't know what the "F" stands for. So "CBR" stands for city (or Commuter) motorbike Racing.

But usually it means the Engine and Drive-train type.
Could be type of bike frame also.
