Personally, I think that the Twins are the favorite to win the World Series this year. If you look at each team individually, its hard not to think that the Twins are going to come out on top. There are three major things going for the Twins at the moment, the best pitching staff at the moment (both bullpen and starters), the best defense (up the middle at least), and the most amount of momentum in their favor (judging by the insane record since mid-June). If you look at the champions in recent years, they each have exhibited a few of these traits. Last year, Detriot rode their dominating pitching staff to the title. The year before, the Red Sox used the momentum from the ALCS comeback to steam-roll the Cardinals. In 2003, the Marlins used pitching and defense to derail the Yankees hopes of a dynasty. The list goes on and on. As cliche as it is to say that pitching wins championships, it is very true. Also if you look at the other teams, there isn't one completely solid team out there(at least more solid than the Twins). Detriot is looking like the bunch of rookies they are since the middle of August. New York has many starting and relief pitching issues (outside of Riveria) and Oakland lacks the front- line starter to be a dominating force in a short series. If you look at the NL, there isn't much there either. Outside of New York, which still is trying to overcome their own starting pitching and inexperience issues, there doesn't seem to be any real threat coming from the senior circuit. Although Minnesota is by no means a lock to even get to the series, it seems to me that they have the momentum and intangibles to finally jump that hurdle. This is hard to say cause I'm a Yankees fan but every team should have Minnesota on their "scary" teams list. But for all i know, they could get sweeped by Oakland and be out of the hunt by the weekend.

This Detroit guy just made a post talking about the Yankees *********...LoL are you serious? I think you have a bigger ego towards the Tigers than all of the Yanks put together. I know you have ALOT of years built up where you had no room even to speak but wow.
Yes the Twins have a great shot at the WS. I think the winner between the Twins/A's series will go to the WS and win it all, b/c both of those teams have solid pitching (A's have better pitching but Twins have a better all around game including offense). The Twins (as I just mentioned) have a solid offense to go along with Santana who is as dominant as any pitcher in baseball today. The Twins will take out the Yanks in the ALCS and play the Dodgers or Mets in the WS and win in my opinion. If not then it will be the A's like I said.
Oh the Tigers in 2006 dont give a crap about the 1987 ALCS, they dont remember and dont care to remember considering it isnt the same team............

I think the answer is Yes. I look at these factors:
1) Liriano is out - and they still came back to win the AL Central (a tough division)
2) The Dome will play a major factor for them in the playoffs.
3) I don't think they will be intimidated by any team
4) Ron Gardenhire is a great manager
5) Yankees might be the favorites, but I'm still concerned about their pitching
I am a little concerned that Oakland can give them fits in Round 1. If they get past Oakland, they could be championship bound.

Twins will lose to the A's.
But it should be a good series.
A shot at winning the World Series this year? Nah.

You bet they do, this one is for Kirby. They'll obliterate the Yankees ( the overrated, and over paid prima donnas that they are), and go to take the wold series in four. Go TWINS Go!!! The 2006 Tigers don't have a grudge about the 1987 ACLS, most of the team were still in high school at that time.

No way in hell. The Yankees line-up is the scariest line-up in the league especially with Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui back. ARod will be batting in the #6 slot which says a lot for this line-up considering he's the reigning AL MVP, and Robinson Cano will bat 9th...interesting considering his season average was about .340. Along with Kyle Farnsworth, Scott Proctor and Mariano Rivera in the bullpen it should be a guaranteed 27th World Championship for the Yanks. Not to mention Chien Ming Wang (19 game winner), Mike Mussina, and Randy Johnson.
In terms of the Mets, who tied w/the Yanks for best record in baseball, Pedro Martinez is out because he needs surgery...without him they cannot win. The twins have good pitching and a good line-up, but "good" doesn't win championships.

Why not? Anything can happen in the post season.
Personally I expect to see the As beating the Yankees for the AL Championship, but I would be tickled pink to see the Twins and Tigers! Add that to last year's White Sox and suddenly the AL Central is not as crappy as it has always looked.

Twins are the hottest team in baseball right now, no one has been as consistent as them the whole season. they have a great lineup..playinf small ball and there pitching is great. I would think they are the favorite to win it all. Though the friggin yanks are stacked..robinson cano batting ninth..are you kidding me?!!
