Ok so I've decided I want to get my tongue pierced and I have researched it and I know all the risks but the one that I am most worried about is losing my sense of taste.

Does anyone know how high the risk of losing the sense of taste is from a tongue piercing?
Is it common or rare?

Anyone that has lot their sense of taste here have any advise?

Okay, I'm a piercing freak, so this is the perfect question for me.

The only way to lose your sence of taste is either if they hit a wrong nerve, or if it gets infected too badly.

If it is a professional, your chances of hitting that nerve are about one in a million.

As for the infection, just take care of it. Either use mouthwash twice a day, or if it burns too much, use a q-tip and just swab around it.

No, I've had mine for...7 years or so. I can take it out for several weeks at a time if I want to but then I have to push it back through and its sore for the day. Only thing its every done to me is slightly chip one tooth (you can see it but I can feel it) and I bite down hard on it every once in awhile and that is NOT a pleasent experience.
