Never! I have a pretty extensive vocabulary. It got that way by asking people what they mean when they use a word I do not know. I have to use jargon and technical language all day at work. When I am conversing socially, I prefer being plain spoken and mostly listening. I might be wrong, but I think it was Ben Franklin who said better to be silent and have people wonder if you are a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it! I do not think big words are a sign of intelligence. I admire creative people who have unique ideas.

No. You shouldn't do that because if you are misusing the word then it makes you look like an idiot. Instead, you should take the time to learn new words and then use them in the right context.

no..because i'd probably look like a fool and i'd use the word in the wrong context. I rather use wordst hat i know because i'd be embarrassed and if someone would find out that i didn't even know what I was saying.

I tried once but was so far off on its meaning that I was essentially laughed at for it. I prefer not to go through that again.

My husband does it all the time, though. I offer to get him a dictionary each time I catch him doing it, but he refuses to use it.

I think its a bad idea because if you use it incorrectly then you defeat the purpose. Better just to be yourself...
