The primary storage device is RAM (RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY) first the data will enter into ths storage device. In this storage device the data will be not permanent when ever we switch off the computer then the data will be erased so it is called as primary storage. And the secondary storage devices are hard disks, floppy drives, tape drives etc,.. in this the data will be stored permanently . The data or information will be not lose in this devices.

Primary storage devices are those to which the computer's CPU has a direct access and it is volatile ie., it rubs off as soon as the power is switched off.
Secondary storage on other hand includes the devices that can store information as backups in hard-devices like tapes n CD's etc.

I think a primary storage device is one that the computer acts upon directly, such as RAM. A secondary storage device is one that contains data, but for the computer to act upon it, the data must first be "read" into primary storage, such as your hard drive, a CD, or a floppy diskette.

primary storage devices are used for storing the programs in execution.........that is the current applications which the computer is running........so that the applications run faster.......these are usually RAM(random access memory).....as the name suggests here any memory location can be accessed directly........so it is faster......on the other hand secondary storage devices are devices which store large files or backup application programs...........ex.....hard drives.....floppy disks etc.........
