We always hear about help for single moms but todays society is growing in numbers of single dad parents and I am one of them. Ex has lived with more men than I can count in the last 5 years, filed bankruptcy and worked cash jobs while living on the support of the men she lives with or can con and has made no attempt to help in the financial part of raising the kids. Welfare says I own too much for help but how can you own too much when you are paying notes on everything you "own"? Help!!!!

The help available is the same for a single parent regardless of gender.

If they turned you down for having too much money, they'd turn you down if you were a woman as well.

You still might be able to get help with health insurance for your kids through the state, and WIC if they are little (under 5). Both of those options generally have higher income limits.

The welfare office's general way of thinking is that you should liquidate any assets before asking for help. In other words, if you have 2 cars, sell one. Two homes, same thing. They have caps on what you can have in the way of assets.

You can try and get help collecting child support through the attorney general's office or through legal aid.. but honestly, good luck! I mean, they really don't do much unless she works a regular job and stays at it long enough for child support to be garnished.

First of I commend you for doing what you are doing being a single dad and putting your kids first not seen very often here where i am from. I am a single mother and know it is difficult to play both roles. Secondly you can go after her for childsupport just anyone else. She will be froced to pay the judge or she could go to jail, just the same as if a father would if he didnt pay childsupport. Get ahold of an attorney and find out what things you can do to get what you need. I hope everything works out for you and remember you arent alone.

Turn her a** into the IRS for working cash jobs!...Deadbeat mothers exist!!!....Welfare...I think if you have too many assets, that you could sell could prevent help there...but there are church groups, and like the other person wrote, there is help with your electric and such, you can call The Department of Human Services, or Food Stamp office and they can direct you to other resources....And make her pay child support!!!...Best of luck to you and your kids....

if you have someone who you can put their name on the things that you own and then try to reapply for welfare. or get a loan out on the stuff. GOOD LUCK. it is so refreshing to see a dad who actually cares.

You may not qualify for welfare, but you do qulify for some programs... heating assistance, food vouchers, health insurance.... you need to keep looking into different programs... don't give up just because you didn't qualify for one program....
