legalism conflicts Confucianism, but Confucius believes suggest that they are derived from legalism.

consider it like this: parents end up disowning their child as their own due to a decision their adult child makes, but the child still considers themselves connected to their parents even though the relationship has been cut off.

Yes, at least in the definition of human nature. Confucianism is inclined to the idea of good human nature but legalism is inclined to the idea of bad human nature.

Confucianism believes that self governing is possible by working on virtues to prevent wrong doing. Legalism does not believe that self governing is possible, which is why they work on punishment to prevent wrong doing.

Confucianism focus on cause, legalism focus on consequence.
