the cells got to be seen, you need that scope to see those things right?

As you know cell itself is a very small thing to be seen by a nacked eye.This small cell contains various components which are many times smaller than the cell.So there is no possibility for human eye to view these small components.Again, microscope enlarges the capacity of our eye to view things to very large powers. Then we are able to see small things like viruses as a cell and many components inside it.So it is important.

Well, prior to the microscope, it would only be theory that cells even exist.

Think about it. How could you see cells without a Microscope?

basically there was this guy (i think his name was Hooke) who looked at honeycombs under a microscope and noticed that there were individual compartments all over it - so he called them "cells", and he eventually found that cells are the basic building blocks of life - that everything is made of cells.
