I'm wondering about this because I'm watching a video from a Charlie Rose program, and in it, there is like two supreme court justices talking about how people should be informed about judges because if they don't know about them then they will lose legitamacy and people won't be confident in them. Anyway, if I didn't lose you my basic question is: what do you think about judges??

**Remember Judge Judy (on network TV) is by NO means a comparison to a Supreme Court Justice**
I'm sure they don't yell at the poor people in court...lol
I'm watching the video and Sandra Day O'Connor is so cute cause she's old and reminds me of my grandma (hehe)..

I am outside your jurisdiction and I do read the Reports of your Supreme Court ! What I feel is that your Judges are good/independent and fair in their judgments. At least the Justices of Supreme Court. You know I respect Justice Marshall !

I want judges appointed who will write judicial opinions honestly, ......

"Legal realists ... have long understood that the arguments put forward by courts to justify their decisions are often simply after-the-fact rationalizations of results reached for reasons they are unwilling to acknowledge publicly -- reasons such as ideological, religous or economic preferences. Lawyers are taught to argue both sides of every issue. Any good lawyer is capable of rationalizing virtually any conclusion he wishes to reach by plausible arguments."

... and who make decisions with a sense of dedication to what the statutes and provisions of the U.S. Constitution were intended to accomplish, ...

"But the judge must always remember that he should go no further that he is sure the [lawmakers] would have gone, had [they] been faced with the case before him. If he is in doubt, he must stop, for he cannot tell the conflicting interests in the society for which he speaks would have come to a just result, even though he is sure that he knows what the just result should be. He is not to substitute even his juster will for theirs; otherwise it would not be the common will which prevails, and to that extent the people would not govern."

I believe we haven't had these qualities in any of the people serving on the Court in the last 35 years.

I don't have any personal experience to go by. Judges are human like the rest of us. There are some that are corrupt as in every other aspect of our lives. They are expected to be impartial, but in this day and age, money talks. They also have opinions on issues, and this can sometimes make their impartiality impossible. A sitting judge who had an agrument at home, may be testy while hearing a case, which will undoubtedly skew his/her judgment.

I think that most of them just dont give a crap anymore. Some are corrupt and some are just plain looney. If a judge makes a decision that is so off the wall and doesn't have common sense and makes a decision that hurts someone, they should be able to be held accountable in criminal and civil court !!! It amazes me how many "so called" educated people are no common sense !!!
