how do you find the magnitude? for ex. if A is 3 m north and B is 3 m northeast, and the problem is you have to add A+B, what would be the magnitude? wouldn't it be 6 m?

No. This is a vector addition.
You have 3m @ 90 deg +
3 m @ 45 deg
3m@45 deg = 2.121 m@90 = 2.121m@0, so your sum is 5.121m@90 + 2.121m@0
sum = (5.121^2+2.121^2)^0.5 @ arctan(5.121/2.121)

Hi, Stinker poof. The magnitude would be the sum of the squares. Tryt it out if you don't believe me. the answer would then be square root of 18. Try it. work on it or something.
