Howls Moving Castle from Miyazaki.

I like movies that stem from anime tv series or manga as well. But I think they owe a lot fo their success to already having a fanbase and a background. Miyazaki's movies are self-contained stories and absolutely amazing given the time they have to establish everything.

All those who said Miyazaki are dead on. It's the only anime I'll watch. Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke are the ones I'd recommend.

Definetly Akira. But we've all seen Howls moving castle, and Spirited away by now. endless waltz was great, vampire hunter d Bloodlust was great. If u want a tearjerker, somthing more mature, check out grave of the fireflies. :D
