Genital pleasure was created as an expression of the union of husband and wife where by their desire to give themselves totally to each other, this expression of their mutual love can result in the creation of another human being. Masturbation is not the expression of the self-gift of oneself to another. It cannot be the expression of love, since no one else in involved. It is not a giving, but a taking. Maturbation takes genital activity out of its proper context and makes it a selfish act. Yes, masturbation is a mortal sin.
