No offense, and not knowing your attachment to the plant,, it isn't one that might do well in NC anyway,,,and certainly not in Winter. Here in Florida they also have leaf die off, etc.

You state the porch is enclosed, and have you checked a zoning/ temp range for the plant in it's limitations? If it's a significant issue for you,,,you could put a space heater in the room, for periods of the deepest chill. Also added Humidity.

We probably shouldn't get emotionally attached to our plants,,,but we often do,and I even talk to some of mine,,,though not publically,,,smiles. It is a life force, and dependant on you for support, so I suggest nurture it as if it was a family member.

Many might think me crazy, but I'm as sad when a plant dies,,, in my care,,,as I am of other things that don't succeed.

Banana plants need constant warmth. I don't think it will make it on your porch though out the winter. Temp shouldn't go below 55degrees...(even that's kinda cold) It needs lots of light (im sure you know that)
You would be better finding a place in the house for it if you can....preferably a nice sunny window so it can get at least 6hrs of sun.

try wrapping it in insulation as far as you can go and then take some plastic window covering and fix it like a small green house around it(6x6 depending on how big your plant is.) and then get you a small electric heater and keep it on low. That way you want have to heat your whole room, and the tree will have warmth

build another (2nd) enclosure of heavy clear plastic just for the plant. Add at least three or four water-filled gallon milk jugs painted black.

begin fasting and praying.
