U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan war against Taliban guerrillas can never be won militarily and urged support for efforts to bring "people who call themselves Taliban" and their allies into the government.
"You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government," Frist said. "And if that's accomplished, we'll be successful."

Umm.....didn't we invade Afghanistan to get rid of the Taliban? Why on earth should we allow the Taliban to be a part of the Afghan government when they were directly responsible for harboring and supporting a group that attacked America? How can the Iraq war critics be called traitors and enemy sypathizers by the Republicans when one their high profile leaders is in support of Taliban participation in the Afghan government?

Jaime- I've studied history quite a bit.....the Taliban was able to fight off the Soviets for 10 years because of American training and training. We created the monster. How come the Taliban is seen as "unbeatable", yet Iraq is seen as "winnable" by Republicans?

The war can be won,the problem is America or NATO is not stopping the source of their Income "the illicit Drugs".and the supply of Arms which comes from Pakistan Pakistan ISI has vested interest in Taliban. The Americans have to destroy all the labs in wazirstan area which is producing Heroin. There was a liaison between CIA and Taliban for a long time.Break that if it is still there.Forget about constructing a gas pipe line from Caspian sea.And Taliban will run away in one week.Discipline Pakistan too. What Bill is suggesting is like bringing Hamas into Israeli cabinet.

No. He thinks if they are represented democratically, the US can better keep an eye on them...

Think of it as a sort of "amnesty" offer... The next step in dealing with people who cannot be dealt with militaristically cannot be good... Think of that as "drop a bomb and let God sort 'em out.."

Frist also keeps his finger in the wind, like any good politician... Look for him to run in 2008...
