The main question I have about it, if I get married my name will be different from my passport, will I still be able to use it if it's not my "legal" name anymore. I know I will be changing all my documents, but it won't be till after my honeymoon of course...

most honeymooners carry the marriage license with them and then get the passport changed after coming back from the trip.
see the link below:

U.S. Passport Re-Application Form: DS-5504

PLEASE PRINT OUT AND SUBMIT ONLY ONE-SIDED PAGES OF THE APPLICATION.

Please type or print legibly in black ink when completing all sections of this application.

This form should only be used for making a data change for a previously issued, currently valid U.S. passport WITHIN one year from the date of issue:

When there is a change in your identifying information, such as a name-change due to marriage or by court order;
To extend the validity of certain previously limited passports; or
To correct a Passport Services’ printing error.
There is no charge for routine service , which is receipt of your replacement passport within 6 weeks from the date you submit it.

If Expedited Service is requested for any of the above, with the exception of an error by Passport Services, there is an additional charge of $60 per application, plus the cost of two-way overnight delivery for receipt within 2 weeks from the date you submit your application. For Expedited Service at a Regional Passport Agency, there is a $60.00 fee per application.

When submitting, please include:

Re-Application Form DS-5504,
The passport to be replaced,
The documentation required for the change (see Instruction Page 2 of the form), and
New photos.
Please follow the instructions on the form carefully. Complete, sign, and date the application. When submitting by mail, send the application form to:

If it is MORE than one year since the date of issue , you must submit Form DS-82 (or DS-11, if appropriate) and pay the applicable fees. For more information on Form DS-82, click here.

This is what you do.

Wait about two months before you go to get the passport.

Go on the honeymoon woth the passport in your old name and the marriage certificate to reflect teh new name

when you get back from the honeymoon, IMMEDIATELY fill out the paperwork to get the passport amended. (it's the Green Form)

If you do it within 45 days of issue date, there is so much less to worry about. If you wait more that a year, YOU PAY FOR A WHOLE NEW PASSPORT

you are going to go on your honeymoon right after the wedding
so you will not have time to take his name on any formal paper
because you need to give at least two weeks for the marriage to get register
until you have a m certificate you will not be able to change any
formal document
as for your passport you can change it but it will be a shame because it will be money wasted
if you are not leaving right after the ceremony
go to passport bureau and apply with the new name you will receive it within 2 days (that is a US)

When i went for some things right after i got married, i needed to show my wedding licence or certificate to prove that things were really as i said they were(cause diff. id was diff names) See about getting a copy(or two) of it to carry with your other id, and passport. That should help. On the other hand, probably none of your other id will have even changed yet, so it shouldn't really matter, you could just use your maiden name for the official stuff.

Don't change your name before you go on your honeymoon. I had the same problem and they will give you paper work at the passport office to change your name when you get back. As long as your ID and passport match names your ok. Have fun and congrats on you wedding.

This is an easy one.....you no u will be married BUT all your ID will be your maiden name....all you have to do it go by your maiden name for all the legality stuff cause all your ID will have your maiden name on it. It makes it so much easier.....don't confuse the situation. Just go along as "Miss Smith" then when you get home become the Mrs.

When you are obtaining the passport you Will have nothing to show you are legally Mrs. so you will have to go down the road again of going to just change the name on it.

i would not worry then if ur not going to change it until after the Cruise anyway just change it later. but if you are using the passport after then i would change it but i would just change the passport whenever change ur documents like licenses and things like that then change the passport.

That happened to me. If you get your passport now it will have your maiden name so you need to carry your marriage certificate with you when traveling
