linebasker they need to be quick to the ball, and also drop back in coverage. the d-end needs to be a little bulky, so he can withstand the punishment from the tailbacks, guards and tackles

in today's game the linebacker position needs to be quicker but still be able to stop the run, on average a linebacker weighs between 225- 265 lbs.
ends also have the same responsibilities so they are built often the same way. Their average weight is between 240-280 lbs.
The difference really is their ability to catch the football, linebackers can catch slightly better.

Defensive linebackers are usually smaller than defensive ends, though some players play both positions, depending on the defensive formation. Offensive ends are smaller than defensive ends.

Linebackers are usally smaller because they need to be able to move quickly and the defensive line (defensive ends) are usally bigger because they are all fatter than the LBs weighing over 300lbs. Example Ray Lewis to Warren Sapp- Ray Ray is stronger but smaller while Sapp is slower and heavier.
