I am confused by what women claim to be 'Liberation'. Am I the only guy who thinks women say 'Yes' way more than they should? I mean, I don't think people should force others to do anything, but it seems like women (in general) have become more promiscuous and careless about their bodies in the last 30 years.

My dad told me when I was a kid that he (and other guys) were always trying to have their way with girls, but that the girls always said, "no". He said men have always been pigs, but women were the great equalizers. He said back in the early 1960's that a lot of guys tried to get their girlfriends to move in with them, but that the girls usually said, "No".

My question is this: Are we better off, as a society, today, now that women are more likely to say, "Yes" to everything? Are women more respected now that they have the same moral compass as men? Is this what women really wanted when they started burning their bras?

A loaded question. Your father is correct on all counts and you are most definitely his son by your pointed and direct quesitons about really important matters.

No, women are only better off in that they can expect to work a longer time before marriage and afterward. However, they are too free with their bodies and don't know the difference between love or lust, don't have any idea what a moral compass is, feel their bodies are their own once pregnant, talk like truck drivers used to, They think they have "power' but power is having the ability to say "No" , when and where and to whom and why. They go for cute butts and no brains, hang out with selfish men because they can't and don't recognize a good and decent man. What they are and what they think they are does not compute. You can read it all in the "relationships" section of Yahoo Q/A. I never knew there was this much confusion in the minds of girls and young women. They are only concerned with 'pleasing some guy." They think it is love...it is anything but love. They have boyfriends at age 12. What parent would allow that? Where are their parents? Too they all dress like hookers. Who lets them out of the house looking like that? They can't even spell or ask a question that does not take great effort to figure out what they are saying (that goes for guys too). I wonder what they are learning in school and how in the world they will ever live a decent life. .The older ones have no idea what to do or where ot turn to when their lives head on a downward spiral...so they put up with more and more abuse. The last 30 years has been terrible for our society, but great for the economy. It is the price we paid and it is not worth it. Anyway, your parents did just fine. Any guy that can ask a question like you did is on his way to becoming something wonderful. Thanks for an important question that is rocking our society.

I don't really know- I'm only 30, so I wasn't around during the women's lib movement... I am glad that we have the option to choose.... I chose "no"...

I chose to not live with my husband before we were married, chose to not have sex with him (or anyone else for that matter) before I was married.

I think there are good and bad things about what that movement has done to our society- it's much more acceptable for women to have careers- which I think is good- women make excellent managers, doctors, etc.

On the other hand, I think the sexual promiscuity that was encouraged in the 70's was a great dis-service to society in general.... but then, I've also used the term boy-sl*t on more than one occasion.

I don't know if the promiscuity issue has increased the "pig-ness" of men or not... I'm sure some men expect a yes and get angry when they don't get one. Others I'd guess are surprised/disappointed when a girl is the one asking the question...

I don't wear a bra and the only reason I don't- is that I am allergic to the elastic in the darn things guess I Will have to buy or make me some more sleeveless undershirts-don't want what men wear! If we say YES then we are doomed and if we say no where does that leave you! Maybe all married women should say NO as well. We can't win for losing. As for the situation maybe men have seduced women and caused our downfall from grace since the 60's! Sexual revolution started back then. I married and settled down but that did not stop my x husband. So I joined in! Now I am back to being ME-scared of those MEN!

What they've achieved is the ability to say, yes, no, maybe and the right to retract it after the fact.

Very little has been gained by society as a whole since the "liberation" of women. IMO, the direct result is more violence, more unruly teens, more STD's, more unwed mothers, more divorce, more affected children, more disjointed families, less love in the home, more stress, etc.

it is way more complicated than that.

for a very long time women we property once they got married that was it, their job was to be wife and mother NOTHING more. they had to as their husbands wanted.
so women got together and fought for their rights to be people.
it wasn't till in the 1940 in Canada that women were seen as people under the law. still they fought for equal rights for things like pay...and fair laws....slowly those things have been changing... we are not all the way there yet but we are becoming more and more equal to men.

The bottom line is that men need to stop being pigs and need to be the ones with high standards and moral principles.. It doesn't matter, any of these other questions that you've asked.

I think women have gained the right to say yes or no and be heard, but have lost our dignity and respect in the process. It's rather sad, in my opinion.
