My friend says to not see a female gyno because she's either very rough or a lesbian. Is this true?

No, you go to the doctor you feel most comfortable with. Many women feel a woman doctor is best for them, if that is how you feel, go to a woman. You will be more honest with someone you like and trust.

I do not believe that. Most of my gynos have been women and they are all good. If they are lesbian I do not know it and it does not bother me in their work. I watched Oparah today and you really never know if someone is a lesbian just based on looks ...there women were gorgeous and lots of people typically think lebians have a "look" but not there ladies. Anyways, I do not believe your friends statement, maybe that was their expericence but mine has been good with no problems. I feel more comfortable with a female doctor than a male going up there.

Honestly you need to not listen to your friend. Most women are more comfy with a female because they have a real understanding of how things work down there. Men gyno have to read the material but they don't experience what we do so there info is very textbook only. You need to be comfy with whoever and if you consistenly go to the same lady, you will get more at ease each time you go. It is a trust thing ya know? Please go because they can detect so many things. In most cities there are womens health centers where no men are allowed which makes the whole experience easier.

NOOOO it's not true, gosh. Think of it the other way - what normal unperverted male would want to go "down there" for a living. I'd never ever ever go to a male gyno, freaks me out just thinking about some strange old guy poking around and giving breast exams....YUCK. I've gone to the same lady gyno for years and she's married with kids.

Ummm, NO! Women are better because they know what you mean when you say "I have a cramp here and it feels like this...." Men might be gentle, but they never experience a menstrual ANYTHING in their lives! And your friend is obviosly biased. I wouldn't take advice from someone with so little knowledgable input. Just be comfortable with your doc, schedule a consult before you go. Any OBGYN/Gyno that is willing to consult with you even without any exam is one to really look into.

lol, thats silly. men cant empathize. they can be just as good, but honestly cant know exactly what we are feeling. my gyno is awesome, and also delivered my baby. shes got a husband and children and shes not all butch or anything. for gynos, its not about sexuality, its just another part of the body, like a heart is for a cardiologist.

To me, a female is better. Simply because she knows the anatomy of a female, since she is one. And when you describe certain feelings you may have related to the area, she would understand, whereas a man would not.

No that's not true. You should go see a doctor that makes you feel comfortable in his/her presence and that is helpful with all the questions you have.

No it's not. But i personally prefer male doctors. For some reason it's a lot easier for me to talk to them and they just understand better.

I have had both male and female gyns. Both have been gentle. The sex preference has nothing to do with it.
It sounds as if your friend has had some bad experiences. Perhaps she could tell you where she had the bad experiences and you could avoid those doctors.
